American Idol 2014 – Top 8 Results – Live Blog and Recap
Welcome to the live blog and recap of American Idol XIII, "Top 8 Results"! Daughtry performs as the Top 8 becomes the Top 7! Well, unless the Judges' Save gets used. Who will sing for the Save? It's a dramatic half-hour of results!
Rickey.org readers predict, for the second week in a row, that it will be the end of the road for CJ Harris, who received an absolutely staggering 63.88% of the vote from our poll. The tide of prediction is so overwhelmingly against CJ that the next closest vote-getter predicted to go home this week is Dexter Roberts, who received only 8.63% of the vote. Rounding out the bottom 3 predictions is Sam Woolf, who received 6.33% of the vote. However, it's not too late to add your prediction, so head on over and vote! Also, check out last night's post-show power rankings and see where your favorites landed!

Let's get this show on the road!
Recap
-We kick things off with clips from last night, including thoughts from Randy, who believes, Caleb, Jessica, Dexter, and Jena wiill almost certainly be safe tonight. I'm kind of expecting at least one of those names will hit the bottom 3. Okay, mostly just Jena.
-Once again, I find myself wondering what they're feeding this audience, as they go absolutely bonkers for the judges. Ryan says it's simply the crowd collectively telling J-Lo she's hot. Um, okay?
DINNER TIME DOWNLOAD
-So now it's been renamed from the "Dinner Club" or whatever they called it last week, as we see the Top 8 chat about their performances while out to dinner after the show. Malaya telling Sam not to give his fans the "stank devil eye" during his performance is profoundly rich. Jena, for her part, says what sounds like the most scripted line in the history of reality competition, saying that last night was the best night yet, but it sucks because someone has to go home. "I love you all," she adds, sounding genuine, at least. I like these segments, especially now that they're keeping them relatively short. These half-hour results shows are a godsend.
RESULTS, PT. 1
-Ryan throws to the video screen for the results...
DEXTER ROBERTS is safe! (Well deserved, after last night)
JENA IRENE is safe! (There goes my prediction for the bottom 3. Maybe Randy will be right after all)
-So who will be the Bottom 3? CJ, Sam, and Malaya maybe? I just can't see Alex, Caleb, or Jessica landing there. But you never know.
-Ryan introduces Randy as "my friend Simon Cowell" after we return from break, as they sit next to each other near the contestants. Ryan throws to a Ford promo video where the contestants talk about their favorite road music, and basically what driving means to them. In an amusing moment, Caleb notes that he'd make out with his girl in the car for three hours before taking her for pizza. Which is EXACTLY the kind of date I would have imagined Caleb would take a girl on.
DAUGHTRY PERFORMS "WAITING FOR SUPERMAN"
-Chris Daughtry still sounds great live. Hell, the whole band does. Well, except for a few moments where he gets sharp and falls off pitch. But he's quick at correcting that sort of thing. As good as this was, I found myself wishing "Waiting For Superman" were a better song, because I really want to like this group, but I'm just not really a fan.
-That said, I really can't stress enough how good I thought Chris sounded.
-After the performance, Ryan talks with Chris about his infamous elimination, and the look on his face when he was sent packing. More like the look on ALL OF OUR FACES. Seriously, I still can't really believe that elimination happened. Katharine McPhee's reaction to being safe pretty much told the tale far more than Chris's face did. Oh, Season 5. I kind of miss you.
-Back from break with a reminder that Dexter and Jena have been declared safe. Ryan then notes that many of the contestants are charting on iTunes, although he doesn't mention whom, nor does he mention where on the charts they're landing. Probably a smart move, relatively speaking.
RESULTS, PT. 2
-Ryan throws to the video screen for the next batch of results...
CALEB JOHNSON is safe!
JESSICA MEUSE is safe! (Such an adorable reaction of relief)
ALEX PRESTON is safe!
MALAYA WATSON, SAM WOOLF, and CJ HARRIS are the Bottom 3!
-If it's Malaya, the judges are using the Save, I think. If it's one of the other two, no dice.
FINAL RESULTS
-Ryan reveals the final result...
SAM WOOLF has received the fewest number of votes!
-NIGHTMARISH screams from the girls in the audience! I haven't heard a crowd that upset over an elimination in YEARS. I'm far more shocked that CJ has escaped elimination AGAIN. He's becoming a real Elimination Houdini.
-The band cues up "Babylon," and admittedly, he sounds pretty great. I just love the smoothness of his baritone. That said, I'll be absolutely FLOORED if he's saved.
-Ryan throws to J-Lo who reveals they are unanimous. They're USING THE ONE SAVE ON SAM WOOLF!!!!
SAM WOOLF RECEIVES THE JUDGES' ONE SAVE OF THE SEASON!
Final Results & Elimination (Top 8) - American... by IdolxMuzic
-Confetti falls from the ceiling and CJ rushes the stage along with the other contestants and scoops Sam up in a huge hug as "The Man" by Aloe Blacc plays. Honestly, it's a great, great moment, but I think using the Save on Sam could turn out to be a HUGE mistake. This felt like a Matt Giraud-type save, where the judges used it just to use it. I'll be interested to see any post-show videos that get uploaded to the Idol YouTube account, since they tend to have post-show interviews with the judges. Maybe they'll explain their process behind using it.
-Ryan reveals that next week's theme is the 80s, as the Top 8 perform again. I'm REALLY hoping this save doesn't come back to bite them in the ass.
-What did you think of the results? Did the right act end up facing elimination? Were the judges right to use the Save? Sound off in the comments! Until next week, thanks for hanging out tonight!
