American Idol 2014 Recap Top 9
Please chat in the comments below just like old times! We have a great group of regular chatters every night. No one fights anymore. It's really been the best since the trolls/catfishes left.
I will update this post with my thoughts and post videos as the show progresses. I'm multi-tasking so I will be frantic. Please be patient!
AMERICAN IDOL XIII: TOP 9: Clockwise from Left: Majesty Rose, Dexter Roberts, Alex Preston, Caleb Johnson, C. J. Harris, Malaya Watson, Sam Woolf, Jessica Meuse and Jena Irene. CR: Michael Becker / FOX. Copyright 2014 FOX Broadcasting.
There is a band on stage. So this will be the setup for the entire night. At least it's not a bare stage.
Jennifer Lopez regrets that MK Nobilette left last week. (Oh really? Just because she's a lesbian doesn't mean she automatically has the talent of k.d. lang, hello???)
Mentors
Fall Out Boy gave some insight to the contestants this week... because you know, it's band week!
Group song from the Top 9! (This was horrible by the way)
Songs: "Clocks", "I Can't Get No Satisfaction", "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)"
Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr and a Giant Gummy Bear
"It tastes like plastic," says Jlo
| Performance Order | Song | Voting Number |
|---|---|---|
| Alex Preston | “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt | 1-855-4-IDOL-09 |
| Review: This started out with Alex just tapping the guitar, nice! He is definitely the most artistic contestant this season. I like this version. He "Alexified" it. Hope it's an iTunes hit! (Watch Video) | ||
| Majesty Rose | “Shake It Out” by Florence + The Machine | 1-855-4-IDOL-07 |
| Review: I think Majesty's ambition is too big for her abilities right now. She tried and the arrangement favored her low key singing, but it only highlighted how big this song is for her. Oh well. Even her best friend looked so bored. (Watch video) | ||
| Dexter Roberts | “Boondocks” by Little Big Town | 1-855-4-IDOL-01 |
| Review: Dexter is back. Great song choice for him. This will energize his fans to vote. He's one of the most popular contestants this season. (Watch Video) | ||
| Malaya Watson | “The Long And Winding Road” by The Beatles | 1-855-4-IDOL-02 |
| Review: This was a weird performance for me. I did not understand her hand gestures. And she was off timing many times trying to make the song intense. I did not get it at all. I think this was the wrong attack to this song. (Watch Video) | ||
| Sam Woolf | “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s | 1-855-4-IDOL-12 |
| Review: Go Sam! He chose the right song which he was comfortable with. Just effortless. The girls will love him. Cute shirt! Hahaha. I hope he sings a more exciting song next time though. (Watch Video) | ||
| Jessica Meuse | “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac | 1-855-4-IDOL-10 |
| Review: Bonus points for the scarf! Another solid performance from Jessica. This song however... overused on talent shows. I really don't know what else she could have done to overcome that. Maybe a different Stevie Nicks song? (Watch Video) | ||
| CJ Harris | “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” by The SteelDriver | 1-855-4-IDOL-05 |
| Review: Good song choice. And he stayed in tune most of the time, which was a relief. But he lost it when he was shouting and putting some emotion in the singing. It sounded like he really practiced though. CJ is a nice guy. I like him. But singing out of tune and not realizing it is not acceptable. (Watch Video) | ||
| Caleb Johnson | “Dazed And Confused” by Jake Holmes/Led Zeppelin | 1-855-4-IDOL-13 |
| Review: OK Mini-Meatloaf enjoy your time in the limelight. You just might win this thing because you are the "type" of contestant a lot of Idol fans adore. Standing O from Keith and JLo. This is madness. (Watch Video) | ||
| Jena Irene | “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence & Paul McCoy | 1-855-4-IDOL-08 |
| Review: Great ending to the show. Best performance of the night. Her vocals were amazing! Go Jena! (Watch Video) | ||
