American Idol 11 Top 7 - This Decade Theme - Song Suggestions
The American Idol 11 Top 7 will be tackling songs of "This Decade" next week. Nigel Lythgoe tweeted that this means 2010, 2011, and 2012.
So, I sat down with my Spotify music library and attempted to choose songs for these contestants. To be honest, the girls were much easier to choose songs for than the guys, but even so, this was tough.

Sugarland - "All We Are" - The producers seem to want to paint her as a diva, and this song has some big moments. Plus, it has a groovy melody
Sugarland - "Shine the Light" - A super emotional song with a powerful message
Rascal Flatts - "Easy" - Such a great song, she could shine on this, it's a duet, but since it's only a 90 second performance, that doesn't matter
Little Big Town - "Little White Church" - a sassy and revengeful song, right up her alley, she could bring the rock edge to this
The Band Perry - "You Lie" - A Terrific song that could really wow us
Lady Gaga - "You and I" - It can have a rock edge. Her vocals are similar in style to Haley Reinhart, and she could show her relevancy in music
Florence + the Machine - "Dog Days are Over" - She could break out the piano (or any other instrument she can play) and strip it down and get back to her "One and Only"-type performance that wowed us to begin with
Ellie Goulding - "Your Song" - If Elise wanted to cheat, she totally could cover Ellie's version of this song, absolutely perfect for Elise's soulful vibe
Rihanna -"California King Bed" - She could freaking ROCK this. It's mature and if she played it right, could be a huge moment for her.
Pink - "Glitter in the Air" - Terrific song, could show a different side to her
Demi Lovato - "Skyscraper" - After being bussed by the producers and judges this past week, she could come back swinging on this emotional ballad
Miley Cyrus - "Forgiveness and Love" - Yup, I'm a Miley fan, and sometimes she does have good songs. Hollie could turn her Idol trajectory around and power-ballad this up a little, this is super emotional and has a great message
Katy Perry - "Firework" - If she did this just right, this could be a nice fit for her. After last week, she needs to come back strong and show how current she is. She could totally diva this up a bit.
Jessie J - "Price Tag" - A great song that could showcase her vocals and let her let loose. She needs this.
Beyonce - "Love on Top" - I know she's done Beyonce already, but I would LOVE to hear her vocals on this. If she could handle the plethora of key changes, she could sing anything. This could put her over the top.
Beyonce - "Best Thing I Never Had" - A great song that she could absolutely slay. What Jessica really needs to win right now is an 'Idol' moment.
Katy Perry - "Teenage Dream" - Well, she's a teenager and this song is youthful.
Selena Gomez - "Love You Like a Love Song" or "Who Says" - Both are her age and show her relevancy
Christina Aguilera - "You Lost Me" - A dark but emotional song. Imagine: Single spotlight and just a piano. Chills.
Christina Perri - "Jar of Hearts" - It could be "Piano Man" Part 2
Coldplay - "Up in Flames" - A great laid back type of song that lends itself to a piano
Gavin Degraw - "Not Over You"
Bruno Mars - "It Will Rain" - THIS could be an 'Idol' moment for him, he could bring out the piano and just let his vocals shine
Foster the People - "Pumped Up Kicks" - Such a great song and could be a great moment
Rihanna - "We Found Love" - Totally flip this track upside down
Arcade Fire - "Ready to Start" or "The Suburbs" - both tracks are right up his alley
The Decemberists - "Don't Carry It All"
Mumford & Sons - "The Cave" - She could have a great moment with this
Bon Iver - "Holocene" - Could show a softer side to him
Usher/David Guetta - "Without You" - He could totally break out this week, and plus, it has plenty of chances for vocal acrobatics
Kanye West - "All of the Lights" - Shows a different side to him
Cee Lo Green - "Forget You" - A fun song that could show off his funky side
What are your picks? And how do you feel about this theme?
