American Idol 11 - Top 6 Perform - Live Blog Recap

Tonight, the Top 6 of American Idol 11 take on the songbook of Queen. Each contestant will be singing two songs each: a Queen ditty and another selection of their choosing. I suspect Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor will be the mentors! This could be a great night for a few (Elise, PP) and a trainwreck for others (Hollie, Joshua).

You can check out the song spoilers HERE.

Anyways, I will be live blogging the events of the night right here. Come back soon and often to check out my thoughts on the talent. Fingers crossed for Elise and Jessica!

This…is AMERICAN IDOL!!!

It was reported that Ryan Seacrest may be too ill to host the show tonight!!! OH NO!!!

THERE'S RYAN! He reminds us that we've had two shocking results weeks so far. He sounds like he may have a cold?!?!

Queen Video Montage: We get some awesome clips of their career. Is that Randy doing the voiceover?! WTF?! They have sales of over 130 million records. I miss Freddie Mercury.

Brian May and Roger Taylor sat down with the Idol's to talk about the music.

Musical Performance - The Top 6 w/ Brian and Roger - Medley

HECK YES!!! They start with "Another One Bites the Dust." Chills. Elise and Skylar sound terrific. They segue into "We Will Rock You." Jessica gets some solo time. Pretty awesome. Then we get some "We are the Champions." YES YES YES!!!

QUEEN CHOICES

Jessica Sanchez - "Bohemian Rhapsody"

It's black and white!!! Oh. Interesting song choice. She sounds pretty great on this. She isn’t oversinging but brings enough fire to this. Pretty good. I might buy that off itunes. Rock isn’t her niche, but she did a good job.

J.Lo said she sounded good, but needed to have the “rock” performance element. Check out her full performance HERE.

Skylar Laine - “Show Must Go On”

OH. I wouldn’t have expected this from her. That’s what’s great about this girl. She’s unexpected. Work it! She’s bathed in red and orange light. She has a slight growl to her voice. As it kicks into the chorus, it is a little off. She doesn’t quite make the big notes. I’m not sure what it is. Hmm. Midway through, however, she seems to pull it together and SLAMS the high notes. Very cool.

J.Lo says she can tell that she's been listening. Yes, she has. Randy said it was incredible and one of her best performances to-date. Check out her full performance HERE.

Joshua Ledet - "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

OH. Hmm. Not sure this was the best choice for him. He's vocally slaying it, though. However, when he went uptempo with "Runaway Baby" he landed in the bottom. Meh. There's something weird about this. And what is up with that mic?

Randy and Steven give him a standing O! Randy thought it was incredible. OK, we must be watching different channels. Check out his full performance HERE.

Elise Testone - "I Want It All"

Oh snap. Love this song! She has a tambourine!!! This girl's tone is just so good. Damn, girl I stopped blogging for a bit to watch her. She brought the heat tonight. That was great! Best of the night by MILLION MILES. There, I said it.

Steven thought she sounded great and really enjoyed it. J.Lo said it was natural and sexy. Check out her full performance HERE.

Phillip Phillips - "Fat Bottomed Girls"

LOL. He doesn't have a guitar!!! I see he's vying for votes tonight. Vocally, this isn't his best. He's not a rocker. At best, he's a soft rocker. He's just standing there singing. She should be working the crowd and connecting with the "ladies" he's singing about. By PP standards, that wasn't good.

Steven loves watching him sing and seeing him run out of breath. Randy liked it, just didn't love it. Check out his full performance HERE.

Hollie Cavanagh - "Save Me"

I totes called this! I LOVE her red suit. Where can I get it?! A lovely ballad for a lovely girl. The arrangement is strictly piano. She's sounding pretty great tonight. As I've mentioned before, she has a nice warm tone. Midway through, the guitars and drums kick in. This song might be a bit ironic for her as I put her dead last in my power list. Ouch, her glory note was a bit flat. Will this performance be enough to save her?!

Steven loves the way she's sings a Queen song. J.Lo felt her get emotional in the middle but it went off a bit for her. She wanted to see Hollie enjoy it more. Check out her full performance HERE.

Round 1 goes to Elise and Skylar.

CONTESTANT CHOICES

Jessica Sanchez - "Dance with My Father" by Luther Vandross

Really?! Jimmy Iovine tells you you need to pick younger songs, and you pick THIS?!?! It is nice to see the gender flip with this song. Typically, it's always guys tackling it. No comparisons here. She's seated on a set of steps center stage. Piano and violins make up the arrangement. As always, her vocals are stellar tonight. I think this is easily her best vocal to-date. Dare I say I could "feel" her emotion much more than in the past?

J.Lo said it was the best version she's ever heard. Steven said watching her evolve on the show has been an honor to behold. Check out her full performance HERE.

Skylar Laine - "Tattoos on This Town" by Jason Aldean

Good song. She broke out the guitar this week! I'm glad she decided to tackle a guys' song, but this really doesn't go anywhere -- even the original. It's just a sentimental ditty and the performance just sits there. Vocally, SkySky fits this song like a glove. I would buy her album.

Check out her full performance HERE.

Joshua Ledet - "Ready for Love" by India.Arie

Oh. Didn't expect him to pick this. Nice surprise. He's sitting on a stool center stage. Purple and blue light fall down around him. This is so much better than his first performance. It's soft and tender without vocal acrobatics. Midway through, he takes you to the edge but then backs away. Nice touch.

ANOTHER STANDING OVATION. WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? Check out his full performance HERE.

Elise Testone - "Bold as Love" by Jimi Hendrix

A perfect song for her!!! This is totally her night!!! She starts downstage with a guitarist on stools. She's really laying out all her vocal power tonight.

Randy said it wasn't a good song choice. STFU RANDY!!! J.lo thought she worked it out, and Steven said it was a bad song choice b/c it's unknown Check out her full performance HERE.

Phillip Phillips - "The Stone" by Dave Matthews Band

I've never been a big fan of DMB. P2 has his guitar! And there's a violinist and saxophone player on stage. I do have to say, this is somewhat different than his performance in the past. However, I just can't get over this growly tone. The song just ends...no real build up...or anything...

Steven says it was typical PP and loves that he takes chances like that. J.Lo said it was too artsy and obscure. She wants him to pick songs that will get him to win. Huh. Check out his full performance HERE.

Hollie Cavanagh - "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus

Oh this song. She's standing center stage in a black and gold ensemble. Is it just me or are both her song choices a bit of (possible) foreshadowing? Vocally, she sounds great on this. This song in general is so sappy and over-the-top. That wasn't the moment she needed to have tonight.

The judges give her a standing ovation. J.Lo said she really stepped it up, and Steven thought it was "beautiful." Check out her full performance HERE.

Top 3: Elise, Skylar, Jessica

Bottom 3: Phillip, Joshua, Hollie

Note: If Hollie outlasts Queen Elise, I will seriously cut a b*tch. That is all.

Who were your favorites tonight? Who's going home tomorrow night?
