American Idol 10 Austin Auditions - Recap

The American Idol Auditions in Austin were very underwhelming. We did find a country cougar bait in John Wayne Schulz and a Taylor Hicks-Seth Rogen sound-look-alike in Casey Abrams, but that's about it. No wonder Ryan Seacrest and Nigel Lythgoe had to work overtime by promoting the "fake out" apology at the beginning of the show for Steven Tyler's outrageous behavior. Lame.

Reading through the recaps of the Idol "pundits" tonight, it seems that the show lost momentum tonight after a strong two weeks. Again, going back to Steven Tyler -- no wonder they had to pimp him out before the shows this week -- he's the reason why people are tuning in. This may or may not end nicely in April/May.

Recaps from the Internet:

Austin Auditions Recap: "I Can Do a Chicken" (Vote for the Worst) - Dave Della Terza: "After picking up John Wayne’s dad, Ryan shows off the belt buckle damage on his hand. Of course Ryan was grabbing the guy’s crotch in typical Ryan fashion. When you’re that deep in the closet, you take what you can get."

American Idol: The best(ish) of Texas (Tubular) - Joey Guerra: "Line of the night? JLo, who tells Los Fresnos singer Rodolfo Ochoa, "You have a vibrato, but basically it's so out of tune, and there's no melody."

American Idol Austin auditions: Cowboy takes 'em away (Miami Herald) - Howard Cohen: "Steven, J.Lo and Randy are far too easily swayed by tears. Just because some teenager cries and wants something really, really bad doesn't mean he or she should get it."

Episode 5: 'American Idol's' Austin Power (Reality Rocks) - Lyndsey Parker: "It was a slightly underwhelming episode--thank gawd it was only an hour long--but Casey Abrams and his magical mystical melodica saved the show."

American Idol Austin Auditions: Your Thoughts? (TV Line) - Michael Slezak: "Unfortunately, I’m not sure any of the 11 folks we saw getting Golden Tickets tonight are destined for the confetti shower that most recently rained down on Lee DeWyze."

American Idol 10 – Austin Recap Live Blog (MJ's Big Blog) - MJ Santilli: "When Randy Jackson announced he’d be displaying a more “assertive” personality, I didn’t think it would translate to “I want to be the new Simon.” I have mixed feelings about this."
