AMC developing new horror pilot, 'The Terror'

The ratings for AMC's hit series The Walking Dead would seem to indicate that audiences can't get enough of watching rubes getting eaten alive by nightmarish creatures. So it's not surprise that AMC would look for another series in that very particular wheelhouse.

The network is developing The Terror, a serialized adaptation of Dan Simmons' bestselling 2007 novel. The series is set in 1947 and follows the crew of a Royal Naval expedition to find the Arctic's Northwest Passage. However, the expedition instead discovers a nightmarish predator that threatens to cut the expedition short, so to speak. The monster also threatens the native people of the region, who join the expedition's life-or-death struggle against the creature.

The series is being executive produced by Scott Free TV, Television 360 and feature producer Alexandra Milchan, and is being scripted by feature writer David Kajganich (who is currently working on an adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand). Kajganich will executive produce alongside Scott Free’s David Zucker and Ridley Scott, Television 360?s Scott Lambert and Meghan Lyvers, and Milchan and Simmons.
