Amazon and BBC Revive 'Ripper Street'

When BBC cancelled Ripper Street in December, fan outcry was loud and vociferous. But not every show that gets cancelled stays that way, especially with new avenues such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon to potentially pick up the discarded torch. And so it is in the case of Ripper Street.

Amazon has partnered with BBC to revive Ripper Street for a third season. Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, previously known in the U.K. as Lovefilm, acquired British subscription streaming rights to the show. This will allow Amazon to move forward with a third season of the period crime drama, with episodes offered exclusively on Prime Instant Video before screening on BBC1 and BBC America several months later. In addition, Prime Instant Video will be the only streaming VOD service in the U.K. to carry the first two seasons of Ripper Street.

Filming on season three will begin in May. Season 2 of Ripper Street premiered on BBC America this past Saturday.
