Amanda Seyfried Cast as Lead in 'Ted 2'

Mila Kunis was the lead in Seth MacFarlane's R-rated directorial debut (and smash hit) Ted, but the sequel will be going in a very different direction.
Amanda Seyfried has been cast as the female lead in Ted 2, the MacFarlane-directed sequel that will feature MacFarlane himself returning as the foul-mouthed teddy bear opposite Mark Wahlberg as his lifelong human pal. Though Kunis is only expected to appear in a tiny role, if at all, this is apparently just a creative decision, and in no way the result of any behind-the-scenes drama.
MacFarlane is nearly finished with post-production on his next film, A Million Ways To Die In The West, in which MacFarlane stars alongside Seyfried, in addition to Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, and a host of others. No word on when the film is expected to begin production, much less when it can be expected to hit theaters, but the film is expected to be co-financed and distributed by Universal, as was the case with the original film.
I wonder what prompted the change in direction for the film? Did MacFarlane really land on a great idea that required a new female lead? I'm way more interested in the rationale than I am in the film itself, strangely enough. And I say that as a guy who loved the hell out of the original, and can't wait for the sequel.
