'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' Renewed for Two More Seasons

Two more years in Philly!

FX has renewed It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the cult hit comedy show from executive producers/co-stars Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton. The news of the renewal is a big deal in itself, but FX Productions has added an additional bit of gravy onto the deal: the company has reached a huge, three-year deal with RCG Productions (the company developed by McElhenney, Howerton, and Day) that not only includes two more 10-episode seasons of Sunny, but also involves a series order for a half-hour comedy starring SNL alum Tracy Morgan. This, in addition to several script deals, and a comedy pilot order. The Morgan sitcom, from New Girl's Luvh Rakhe, has received a 10-episode commitment and a scheduled January 2015 premiere date.

“Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton are three of the most talented comedy writers and producers in our business, not to mention very gifted actors. This deal is a testament to their skill, intelligence and work ethic, which combined to earn them one of the best overall deals in TV. Not bad for three guys who shot a pilot ten years ago for $200 and a few pizzas.” said Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

As for the script orders, the projects feature tons of Sunny veterans. Harder will be written by Sunny writer Scott Marder and star Glenn Howerton, while We’re Good, Thanks will be written by Sunny stars Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Artemis Pebdani and Charlie Day, with Ellis and Pebdani attached to star. Lastly, Blow Up Dolls will be written by and starring British thespian Sarah Solemani, perhaps best known from the fantastic, underrated, Oscar-nominated Judi Dench vehicle, Mrs Henderson Presents).

So it's pretty much Always Sunny on FX. Or rather, FXX. Still, no matter where it airs, this is great news for fans of irreverent, raunchy comedy.
