Alison Haislip Explains The Voice Live Voting Rounds
I was on the conference call with Alison Haislip this afternoon and managed to ask a couple of questions about tonight's premiere of The Voice on NBC.
I asked how they felt about the other networks ganging up on the premiere tonight, with Glee extending to 90-minutes, Pia Toscano guesting on DWTS (something that has never happened before: an ex-contestant on the current season of Idol performing on DWTS) and even Simon Cowell dropping hints that Paula Abdul will be a judge on X Factor. She said it was a "compliment" that the other networks were "scared of us." Like her, I am DVR-ing Glee and watching The Voice tonight. If FOX and ABC have gone through all this effort to distract us from The Voice -- there must be something on NBC worth watching!
Alison is the "social networking" correspondent for the show and they plan to make the show really interactive, specially during the live shows (in June). Tonight she will be tweeting the east coast feed on Twitter on @alisonhaislip.
She also told me that she hasn't seen a "Justin Bieber" on the show yet. Oh no! What a bummer.
One of the things she clarified was how voting was going to work during the live shows:
Each coach will have 4 members on their team when the live shows begin in June. America get's to choose who they are going to "save", and then the coaches pick from those left who they will eliminate (one from each team).
Omigosh! That's so good! That's the X Factor judges' save with a twist!
So as I understand it, this will only work for two weeks -- then on the third week, America will be choosing between 2 people on each team (so no more judges pick) -- and on the finale, I assume America votes for the winner from the 4 teams.
She suggested that everything is still "being worked on" so it's very possible that tweets during the night of elimination can influence who the judges will eliminate. So exciting!
