A Cartoon Network star is heading to FX's spy drama.
Aimee Carrero, a series regular on Cartoon Network's live-action series Level Up, has landed a recurring role on Season 2 of The Americans. The actress will play Chena, an impulsive yet street smart Sandinista freedom fighter who “will go to any lengths to support her cause.”
This casting news is indicative of the direction in which the new season will be headed, as it seems to imply that the show will tackle the United States’ involvement with Nicaraguan Contras in the 1980s. The show's depiction of historical events has been heralded and criticized in equal measure since the series premiered this January. However, the series has been a solid performer for FX, and its second season is hotly anticipated by the show's fans, as well as critics eager to see the direction the show chooses to take following its compelling first season.
Season two of The Americans will premiere in January on FX.
