AI Top 13: Michael Jackson asks, “Who’s BAD!?” Question is, “Who Wasn’t?”

I feel the need to reiterate something a lot of you already know, but the few thousand new readers (yep! Thousands! Thanx Rickey and Yahoo!!) might not be aware of . For those who have heard it all before, well, ya have to hear it again.

Thank the heavens for MP3s and audio wave files! Let me explain.

I rarely judge a performance on Idol’s stage with one viewing. Too many people, I gather, do just that - hence heralding certain mediocre performances by their initial gut reaction. While that might be fine for some, I can’t bring myself to conform to such a narrow hole. I hop online and - once again thanx mostly to Rickey, who posts the audio files of each performance - I listen once again to what I just watched.

“That’s not a fair judgment!” you cry! Perhaps - I mean, I can’t go online and listen to a concert I just got back home from that I thoroughly enjoyed (well, nowadays I can, but that’s another topic altogether).

You’ll then intone, “That’s no way to judge a singer! Would you go to a concert and not enjoy it because you need to hear it twice?” Well, that would be a ridiculous question because this is a ‘contest’, after all, not a concert from a seasoned superstar. That’s why I feel it’s mandatory duty to re-hear what I just watched to make a sound, critical judgment.

All that being said, it’s a blessing to do so, because I wanted to assure myself that Simon, Paula, Randy and Kara’s platitudes were as embarrassingly misguided as I believe(d) they were.
