The American Film Institute has named its Top 10 movies and TV shows of 2013, and it's a world-class mix of prestige drama, awards frontrunners and first-rate comedies. For TV, the picks offer great variety, from Scandal to Orange is the New Black, while the selected films include Gravity and 12 Years A Slave.
This is the 14th year AFI has announced its Top 10 films and TV series "deemed culturally and artistically representative of the year's most significant achievements in the art of the moving image". The American Film Institute largely relies on a jury comprised of critics, film and television scholars, AFI members and trustees, and film and TV artists to aid in selecting the winners. The picks are in no particular order, exhibiting AFI's intention to recognize "the most outstanding achievements of the year ... not as competitors, but as a community."
