Aerosmith to Perform on 'American Idol' Season 11 Finale

It looks like Aerosmith has had a major change of heart. In a recent interview with RollingStone, Perry reveals that the iconic rock band will be performing a brand new single on the Idol finale on May 23, 2012. Previously, Perry appeared on the show to wish Tyler a very happy birthday.

Remember when news broke that lead singer Steven Tyler joined the American Idol judging panel? Who can forget the infamous words guitarist Joe Perry bleeted, telling the Calgary Herald, via RollingStone:

"It's his business, but I don't want Aerosmith's name involved with it. It's a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising. It's one step above [Teenage Mutant] Ninja Turtles."

He also addresses the whole hating-Idol debacle, saying:

It wasn't about the show – it was about how we found out about it. I was pissed off about that whole thing, but I've played on it before and the band is gonna play on it in the last episode of the season to debut the new single. So it's not about the show, it's about how we found out about it. It was a bit of a shock and it took us off balance.
