Adventure Time - Season 5 Episode 42 - Recap - James
This Week's episode of Adventure Time on Cartoon Network isn't Thanksgiving-themed at all! But it's fine. We get an episode not tied into any of the season's arcs, but instead possibly the start of a new arc! Read on to see what I mean.
Finn and Jake are suited up and sad for what seems to be a funeral ceremony lead by Princess Bubblegum before a timeskip one week back. PB and the two heroes are on a mission in this weirdo quadraped vehicle of hers with a candy person called James. James is really weird and goofy. He's always making odd noises and he's way overeager. I'm not sure what his deal is. They reach some kind of site and exit the ship in spacesuits. Peebs checks a small puddle of green goo, and it turns out to be a creature. In fact, it is the same ooze monster from the episode Simon and Marcy! They retreat to the ship, which is broken quickly.
Once they're trapped, James's weirdness ruins everything. he keeps trying to help but messes up. Finn and Jake begin to suspect that James keeps sabotaging their escape plans. Then, Finn offers to sacrifice himself and lead the monsters away so PB and the others can escape. The Princess conks him over the head and when he wakes up briefly, he sees James leading the monsters away! Then James is overtaken and Finn is out again.
When Finn awakens, PB is there. She explains that it was not James that sabotaged their escape plans, but the Princess herself! She knew that all the other plans would fail and that someone would have to be sacrificed. She couldn't let Finn be the one, since he's irreplaceable. James is a candy dude, though, so she can just grow a new one in the lab. We're back at the "funeral" where she reveals that she's done just that. Finn and Jake question whether this is okay or not, but neither of them is sure. Then, there's a little epilogue. Ooze zombie James crawls out of the whole, leading all the ooze zombie towards the Candy Kingdom! Oh noooo!
What a good episode! It's a bit odd for a cartoon to do a bottle episode, but this was fine. It was tense, and Finn's offer to sacrifice himself was cool. Anyway, I'm excited to see where this goes! With the zombies and all that.
