Adventure Time - Season 5 Episode 41 - Recap - The Pit

Finally! Cartoon Network brings us the resolution to Adventure Time's cliffhanger it left us with two weeks ago. When last we left the crew, Jake had been stolen away by a demon, leaving his best bud Finn to find a way to rescue him.

Jake wakes up in a demon pit, to be tortured by the demon Kee-Oth. The demon still thinks Jake is Jake's dad Joshua. There's a weird broken glass overlay whenever the show is in the pit, which is rad. Anyway, the demon steals some of Jake's blood and makes a hat from it. Jake isn't too bummed out by this, which infuriates Kee-Oth. Kee-Oth throws another dog into the pit to fight Jake, and Jake starts losing.

Meanwhile, Finn and pals contemplate how to free Jake. Finn calls Jake's beau Lady Rainicorn. The two watch a video tape made by Jake's dad. PArts are taped over by Jake's, erm... special videos he made for Lady Rainicorn... Yeah... Anyway, they get it together and find that Jake's dad defeated Kee-Oth with holy water and opened a portal to Kee-Oth's dimension in a nearby cave. They head there and activate the spell to get to Kee-Oth's dimension, which is visualized as shattering glass and looks super cool.

The crew finds Jake and rescues him in a really clever way. See, Finn brought a replica of Kee-Oth's blood sword (it got broken last episode when Kee-Oth reabsorbed the blood, remember?). Kee-Oth, thinking the sword is for real, inhales it. Then Finn reveals that it is made from frozen grape juice which has been blessed by a priest... which means it's holy water! Kee-Oth is defeated and everyone goes home!

This episode was good, but felt somewhat low stakes. Usually cliffhanger episodes feel really big and cool, but this just felt like another regular episode. Anyway, it wasn't bad. There were some good jokes and the way Kee-Oth is defeated was really clever! And no cliffhanger this week!
