Adventure Time - Season 5 Episode 39 - Recap - We Fixed A Truck

Cartoon Network's Adventure Time this week features the return of a minor character voiced by a famous guest star and a ton of car knowledge dropped on ya. Finn the Human and Jake the Dog just have a great time with their weird pals in the magical post-apocalyptic landscape of Ooo, no relationship drama or ongoing plot stuff!

Finn has found a truck! It is broken, though, so no fun tricks or shenanigans are possible. B-MO and Ice King don't know trucks, so Finn and Jake call in the expert they know: Banana Man (voiced by guest star Weird Al)! After Banana Man explains how combustion engines work, Finn, Jake, BM, and B-MO all get to work fixing up the engine of the truck. The whole day goes by, and they leave when the day goes dark.

B-MO stays up late (being a robot and all) to add fins and spoilers to the truck, making it cool (also to listen to a conspiracy radio show that claims Princess Bubblegum has been replaced by a lizard person). Banana Man comes back, unable to sleep, and spends the entire night fixing the truck. in the morning, Finn and Jake help put the finishing touches on the repairs/improvements, and everyone goes out for a fun drive. The pass near the Candy Kingdom, where Banana Man spies a lady Banana Guard who he thinks is cute. They drive the truck up so he can flirt, then drive into town.

In the castle town, an angry mob is chasing Princess Bubblegum! Apparently, everyone else also listened to the radio show and so now thinks PB is a lizard person. Jake stretches over and saves her, but once she's safe on the truck, it turns out she is a lizard person and she transforms into her gigantic true form! As they drive at the beast, Finn snatches Banana Man's peel and throws it under the wheels, spinning the truck out. Everyone dives from the vehicle, and it goes up on a ramp to blow up on the monster. The real Princess comes out of the sewer to warn everyone (just a bit too late), and Banana Man is arrested for public indecency.

This was a fun episode! I like the bit of truck knowledge in the beginning. A lot of shows ignore technical aspects when doing any kind of repairing of technology, but this episode gave us a quick run down of how the broken parts should work and which might need replacing. I appreciated that. The season has slowed down a bit from its ongoing plots, which is also a nice relief. Although I'm excited for when they do follow up, I'm also willing to wait a few episodes to get to it!
