Adventure Time - Season 5 Episode 37 - Recap - Box Prince

Cartoon Network's Adventure Time has a completely adorable episode this week. There's cats and boxes, there's meowing, there's B-MO. It's all really just very nice!

Finn is eating some nachos when he spots a box outside with a face on it. He heads out alone to go investigate, since Jake is having a fat video games day (and also he hates cats a lot). Turns out there's an adorable cat under the box! The cat starts walking, taking the box with it, and Finn follows. They end up at a kingdom made from boxes where all the citizens are cats inside boxes. Finn sees another cat whose box has a crown, and decides this other cat must be a usurper of the throne. The cats all just meow and act like cats though, so Finn is pretty much just constructing this narrative himself.

Finn leads the Box Prince through the path in the woods to find his lost crown. Once Finn finds it and presents the prince to his people, combat is begun! The cats all jump from their boxes and play-fight. Finn punches through a plastic wrap compartment for an emergency squirt bottle, which is a great gag. Once he sprays the cats, the fighting stops and he wonders aloud if this is even really a kingdom.

During all this, we cut back a few times to Jake and his lazy day as he tries to get some nacho shards out of his teeth. B-MO helps out a bit and it's a funny little plot, but rather unusual! Being only eleven minutes, a B-plot on this show is rare. Anyway, it's a nice little addition.

This week's Adventure Time is pretty fun. There's not a lot of plot content or anything deep, but it's just cute and fun. The audiovisual experience is pure joystuff. If you're new to the show entirely, this is a great episode that requires no back story at all.
