Adventure Time - Season 5 Episode 33 - Recap - Time Sandwich
Here we are, back again, for another recap in the never-ending season five of Cartoon Network's hit animated action/comedy/fantasy Adventure Time! We're finally away from the longer plots and down to a really strong gag episode, and a Jake-focused one at that! Read on to see what happens when Jake the Dog makes the best sandwich ever.
Jake comes home from grocery shopping with some full bags. He asks B-MO and Finn to play quietly while he prepares a sandwich. The sandwich contains lettuce, tomato, pickles, yellow onion, mayo, sous vide meat, egg, fresh bird, and a lobster soul. When the sandwich is complete, it begins to glow white. It truly is the best sandwich ever made. Magic Man then appears to steal the sandwich, which he does. Magic Man jumps through the wall and throws a spell at the ground, surrounding himself and the debris (and the sandwich) in a thick yellow bubble. Jake thinks it's weird that he's frozen, but Finn notices that Magic Man is just moving very slowly.
After the duo tries entering the bubble only to find that five hours had passed on the outside, they ask B-MO for help. B-MO plan has them building what turns out to be a skateboard ramp. B-MO skateboards right into the slow dome and it's way rad. Then Finn calls over Princess Bubblegum, who fires a missile at the dome. The missile enters and explodes right behind B-MO, making his skateboard trick look way cooler. PB s out of ideas at this point, so she calls Marceline (the vampire queen). Marcy transforms into a cool bat monster and divebombs the dome, sinking into it right behind the explosion, again just making B-MO's skateboard trick look even more super sweet.
At this point, Jake is beyond upset. He's already tried making another sandwich, but that turned out awful. Bummed out, he walks into the slow dome. Oddly, he doesn't slow down! Turns out, the cryptic mumbo-jumbo Magic Man was talking when he took the sandwich was a secret coded message on how to defeat him! Jake won't be slowed by the dome as long as he stays sad! Through the construction of an elaborate mental fantasy, Jake manages to sock Magic Man right in the face. The spell is broken, everything crashes down, B-MO finishes his rad skateboard trick, and Jake eats his perfect sandwich.
This episode was a nice break from the teen love drama dominating the past month or two of new episodes. A return to basics is just what this season needed to keep my interest, especially with it running double length. I'm hoping the show stays like this until we get to the end-of-season build. The current rumor is that this season will end in an hour-long special, which would be amazing! With how much gets packed into 11 minutes, the idea of having 44 minutes to tell one story is crazy! Anyway, check back here next week for another recap, okay? Okay!
