Adam Levine Talks About 'The Voice,' Christina, American Horror Story & Getting Naked

Adam Levine discusses the new season of  The Voice, his love for Christina Aguilera , and whether he shot any nude scenes for American Horror Story.

In an interview with  The Daily Beast, Adam says that while he acknowledges that he and Christina got off to a rough start, it wasn't as bad as the media made it out to be.  He calls the whole feud "sensationalised" and says the two are friends and "I love that woman."

Looks like we should expect a return to the friendly rivalry between The Voice judges for season 3.  It will be interesting to see if they manage to maintain it for a whole season this time or if it will fall apart towards the end, like in season 2.

He says it was the idea of the blind auditions that attracted him to be a part of The Voice and before that he really didn't have any interest in being on a reality show.  He added that, "In a pop landscape, where being attractive and the right weight and the right look—and all that bullshit—play a huge role in people’s success, which is something I do not deny, I liked the fact that we were returning to the purity of what a great voice was, regardless of what the appearance may be."

As someone who has undoubtedly benefited from his own good looks, I think this is a refreshing and interesting view point.  However, the blind auditions don't totally solve the problem.  First, there's the issue of the studio audience pretty much giving it away when someone attractive is auditioning and second, once the judges get to turn their chair, it's all over and things like Erin Martin happen.  However, at least the concept does give people who don't fit the traditional pop mold in terms of physical appearance a shot to be judged based on their voice alone, which is a good thing.

Adam says that he is still in touch with season one winner Javier Colon and it makes him sad that Javier isn't having the kind of career that he hoped for.  He adds that, "What people also need to understand is that it’s a TV show. It would be really great if they could help launch the careers of the artists after the show is over, but you know what happens when the show is over? It’s time for the next season. All that being said, I do believe somebody is going to break through."

In his opinion, Idol got "very lucky" with their first winner and even with the help of a popular t.v. show, launching a superstar career is a "one in a billion shot."

Love the honesty here.  He acknowledges that The Voice hasn't made any "stars" yet and that it's really all about making compelling television, not launching careers.  Sometimes you get lucky and you find a Kelly Clarkson or a Carrie Underwood, but most times that isn't going to happen.  Will The Voice ever find it's own Kelly?  Maybe, maybe not, but as long as it's still compelling television, I'll keep watching.

What I won't be watching though, is some naked Adam Levine on American Horror Story.  Adam breaks the news that he did not in fact shoot any naked scenes for the show, but there is a "very naked picture" of Adam on a cover of Vogue Russia that he didn't expect to circulate as much as it has.

I can't deny that I'm a bit disappointed by this.  Naked Dylan McDermott was definitely one of the highlights of season 1, but I'm sure Ryan will find some way to work some fabulous guy butt into season 2, even if it won't be Adam's.
