Adam Lambert Returns To His Low-Budget Cabaret Roots in Japan

Was that headline too harsh? Adam Lambert performs "For Your Entertainment" in Tokyo - to mixed reviews back here in the U.S.

At the height of the Adam publicity last year, I never thought I would see this video of Adam come in so soon. It was bound to happen I guess, just not this quick.

Every American Idol journey comes full circle. Sanjaya Malakar is back in Seattle singing with his choir, Danny Noriega is singing songs on YouTube, Constantine is playing a "rocker" on Broadway, Charles Grigsby is waiting tables... the list goes on and on. Heck, even Paula Abdul is looking for a new job, and that's Paula.

The die-hard fans loved this performance of "For Your Entertainment" by Adam Lambert in Tokyo -- complete with KISS-like costume, glitter and low-budget backup dancers. But to many, it just seems off. This is not the Adam we grew to love on American Idol one year ago. This is not even the "male Lady Gaga" that he promised us during the lead up to his debut album in November. It just looks cheap. Cheap!

Before some of you flip out again (and some of you already have on different websites who have expressed disappointment) -- I am sad to see this. I wanted Adam to be the next big thing like all of you. It would have made Idol look like the star-making franchise we all want it to be -- instead of the greatest karaoke show on Earth featuring mediocre talent. Unfortunately, it looks like Adam, the international superstar that Simon Cowell had hoped for, will not happen.

Susan Boyle may not be demonstrating that she's well-endowed (LOL) or have a symmetric face like some people, but at least she's not trying too hard.

Go Adam!
