Actor Roger Hill, best known as gang leader Cyrus in the 1979 cult classic The Warriors, has died at age 65.

Hill, who passed away on Thursday, had an acting career that spanned more than two decades, with most of that time spent in the theater. He was among the early participants in the Frank Silvera Writers’ Workshop and appeared in several Off Broadway and touring shows, including productions of Charles Gordone’s No Place to Be Somebody, Ed Bullins’ The Fabulous Miss Marie and William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Hill also was a famed television actor, memorably playing the role of Alec Lowndes on ABC's One Life to Live from 1982-1985.

However, it was his role as the charismatic gang leader Cyrus in The Warriors that remains, to this day, his best known role. It was a role so identified with Hill that in 2005, the actor filed a $250,000 lawsuit against Rockstar Games for using his voice and likeness in a videogame based on the film.

A New York City native, Hill later retired from acting and spent the rest of his life living quietly as a part-time librarian and poet.

He is survived by his son, film editor Chris W. Hill.

Our condolences are with his friends and family at this trying time.
