ABC's 'Nashville' Possibly Leaving City For Season 3
One of the reasons why ABC's Nashville has acquired such a loyal following is down to its shooting on location in Music City itself. Featuring various landmarks and famous venues from Nashville, the show is as much a love letter to its home as it is a dramatic depiction of the music industry there. But now, there's a chance filming may be moved to another city, another state altogether.
The reason is funding. Last year, it was touch and go whether Nashville would be renewed for a second season, and part of what helped it was the money set aside in the Tennessee state budget to keep it going. Now, however, despite the show not yet being renewed to return in the fall, it has been revealed that the newly trimmed budget for 2014 offers a much smaller funds allocation for film incentives. Basically, the state have gone from providing Nashville with $12.5 million for season 2, to only having $3 million available for a possible season 3. Last year Metro gave $500,000 and the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp. gave $125,000, so if the show were to stay in Nashville they'd have to come up with a lot more funding.
Other possible locations for the filming of the show include Georgia and Texas. ABC will announce its final fall line-up on May 13. The season finale of Nashville airs the following day.
