Things are getting even better for David O. Russell. First, an Oscar nomination for Best Director for American Hustle, followed by the accolade of becoming the first director in Oscar history to direct his cast to nominations in each of the four major acting categories more than once. And now, he's just received a pickup from ABC.

The network has given a series order to an untitled drama from David O. Russell and producing partner Susannah Grant (the Academy Award-nominated writer behind Erin Brockovich). Together, Russell and Grant are executive producing the series, which is described as “an upstairs/downstairs soap centered on a private country club.” So the Club Med version of Downton Abbey?

Timberman-Beverly Productions will join Russell and Grant in executive producing the series, which originates from CBS Television Studios and ABC Studios.

Grant is no stranger to television, although she hasn't had much success: she created the supernatural CBS medical procedural A Gifted Man, which debuted to dismal ratings in 2011 before ultimately being canceled. Let's hope her latest attempt at TV success doesn't go the same route.
