Why ABC Family Should Save 'Twisted'

Following the news that ABC Family has decided to cancel Ravenswood and not bring it back for a second season, we have to say, we're a little worried. Yes, we were bummed when the Pretty Little Liars spin-off didn't make the cut but we had to wonder...are any of our other favorite ABC Family shows on the chopping block?

As of now, it appears that the only series left up in the air is Twisted. The new drama series debuted last year and while it's not smashing ratings quite like Pretty Little Liars, we think it's definitely deserving of a second season.

Here's why:

Answers

  • Unlike certain other shows that I'm addicted to (*cough Pretty Little Liars cough*) Twisted delivered some big answers in the season 1b premiere and it wasn't even a finale! I don't know if this is a bad sign or not but as a viewer, it's certainly appreciated. The plots are going somewhere. It's no fun being strung along for years with no real payout at the end. And ultimately, it makes for bad TV. Recycling plots and depriving the viewers of answers just to provide filler can get tiresome and will turn the audience off eventually. Remember LOST? Twisted is doing something about that. There are now new mysteries to explore and fans should get that chance.

It's Different

  • In a world full of crime and medical dramas and where there's a reality show for everything (whatever happened to that spelling bee show?), Twisted is a breath of fresh air. Similar in theme to mega hits like Pretty Little Liars, it lands somewhere in the middle between that and fan-favorite The Lying Game. Personally, I think Twisted is much more interesting than The Lying Game and it has so much more going for it. Yes, Twisted does have it's share of "love drama". If the writers insist on including the love triangles, let's resolve them. While the plot may have been a bit controversial and dark, networks need to stop assuming their fanbases only consist of 12 year olds who care only about relationships and "shipping".

The Cast Is Wonderfully Diverse and Pretty Awesome

  • It's been a great year for shows with a diverse cast list. Saturday Night Live really brought it to the public's attention this year and no one can ignore how successful and amazing series like Sleepy Hollow and Scandal are. Switched at Birth and The Fosters are both considered groundbreaking shows and for a good reason. ABC Family has never shied away from showcasing anyone. The unfortunate thing with Ravenswood was that it had a great cast but ultimately couldn't deliver.

The Network Owes Us

  • Let's be real. This channel has it out for me. My favorites don't tend to last very long (RIP Kyle XY. I'm still bitter!). The network made the decision to push the season 1b premiere of Twisted back to February to make room for Ravenswood. Well, we all saw how that worked out.

I don't think a series that is so full of potential should be given up on just yet. Share your thoughts below if you agree that Twisted should stick around for a second season!
