ABC Family Renews 'Young & Hungry', Picks Up Procedural 'Stitchers'
ABC Family is hungry for more Young & Hungry.
The network has announced that it is renewing the summer comedy for a second season. The show, which stars Emily Osment as personal chef to an ambitious young businessman, was a solid performer for ABC Family -- solid enough, at least, to survive the scheduling cuts. The same could not be said for fellow newcomer Mystery Girls, which was axed after just one season earlier this month.
But that's not all: in addition to renewing Young & Hungry, ABC Family has picked up its first-ever procedural drama.
Stitchers, from writer/executive producer Jeffrey A. Schecter (Overruled!), tells the story of “a young woman recruited into a covert government agency to be ‘stitched’ into the minds of the recently deceased, using their memories to investigate murders and decipher mysteries that otherwise would have gone to the grave.”
“Stitchers is new ground for us and I’m excited to bring procedurals to the network,” said ABC Family President Tom Ascheim in a statement. “We think our fans will love the intricate mysteries that Stitchers will solve week to week as much as they love our relationship-driven dramas.”
I'm actually kind of excited for Stitchers, honestly. And I'm not really that crazy about procedurals (at least not those of the non-Law and Order variety). Looks like I'll need to make a little more room in my schedule.
