9 TV Characters Who Need Their Love Lives Revived

Once in a while, characters from all of our favorite TV shows require a little something special in the love department to take them to the next level as individuals. Romances create some of the most compelling reasons to keep coming back from episode to episode. Here are a few characters from some popular current shows who could possibly use a new or renewed love interest to fuel their personal growth and feed into our viewing pleasure.

As I always say, I can't watch everything! Be sure to let everybody know which characters from your personal favorite series could stand to have their love lives spruced up!

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

Derek Hale (Teen Wolf)

MTV "Teen Wolf"

Season 3b has been seriously lacking in the Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) department, and a legitimate romance in the future could be a great way to rework his character. After all, we did watch him suffer through a partly phony relationship with that awful dark druid, “Jennifer,” just a short while ago, and everyone on this site seems to be in agreement that it's time to stop brutally torturing Derek Hale. Can’t the MTV hit action-drama write in a normal girlfriend for Scott’s mentor/ big brother figure? Remember, Derek never had to sacrifice his life to refuel the supernatural homing beacon known as that gargantuan druid trunk. Thus, he doesn’t suffer any personal consequences. There’s a reason we haven’t seen too much of him, and it’s probably because he has a lot of free time these days.

Collin Jennings (Awkward.)

MTV "Awkward."

The fact of the matter is, fans love Nolan Funk. Awkward. set up a serious contender for Jenna’s heart and blew him to smithereens over the course of the last half of Season 3. Collin went from poetic, intelligent, and romantic to an over-baked d-bag. If Awkward. is looking to keep Nolan Funk on our TV screens, the best thing they can do is to write in a new love interest that forces him to completely change his ways. Wouldn’t it be entertaining to watch Jenna, completely happy in a relationship with Matty, questioning why it is that another girl, like Bailey, could so easily change the guy who helped destroy her life for a moment there?

Debbie Gallagher (Shameless)

Showtime "Shameless"

Not that I’d in any other case care if 13-year-old Debbie Gallagher (Emma Kenney) decided to find a little boyfriend for herself, but this recent Season 4 plot that has Debbie chasing after a twenty-something man needs something to drag it to a screeching halt. I think Debbie needs an age-appropriate boy who acts as the male equivalent of the youngest Gallagher girl. Debbie needs some kind of a confidant besides her two ridiculously skanky friends and Carl, not an actual romantic interest but a "boyfriend."

Felicity Smoak (Arrow)

The CW "Arrow"

The Ollicity fans are going to kill me, but the truth is, that doesn’t look like it’s happening any time soon. Now that Oliver has begun his rekindled romance with Black Canary, we can assume his feeling for Felicity have been temporarily quashed by his uncanny connection to the one woman alive who truly understands what he’s been through. That's an uphill battle, Felicity! Having said that, I think Felicity deserves a relationship as well. The show teased us with the awesome introduction of Barry Allen, who we know won’t be coming back unless Arrow’s proposed Flash spinoff fails. Barry and Felicity had perfect chemistry, though, and it would be tough to recreate yet another viable threat to stack up against Ollie. Still, it’s worth trying. Our tech-geek deserves it.

Jessica Pearson (Suits)

USA "Suits"

So much emphasis has been placed on Harvey’s commitment issues in the past, but the Season 3a finale certainly set up something resembling a romance with Scottie as the show gears up for its return in March. Is it time for Suits to write in a love interest for the firm’s female partner? Now that she and Harvey are in a better place and the two have learned a great deal from each other through their recent struggles for power, maybe it’s time for Jessica (Gina Torres) to take just a tiny bit of personal time away from the chess game that is the firm. Meaning, I’m not even sure we have to see a new man in her life with our own eyes. It could be nice to simply see Jessica with a little extra pep in her step as she continues to kill it in court.

Matt Donovan and Rebekah Mikaelson (The Vampire Diaries)

The CW "The Vampire Diaries"

It might sound crazy, but I enjoy Matt (Zach Roerig) so much so that I’m okay with sacrificing the one token human on TVD to move him over to The Originals. I’m just not buying that one exotic Euro-trip with Rebekah (Claire Holt) was enough to satiate about four seasons’ worth of pouting about how he’ll never be anything more that a busboy at the Mystic Grill. As much as having a human around adds a needed sense of danger to the plot, I’d like to see Matt joining Rebekah on some more adventures in New Orleans. Can’t you picture him bartending right next to Cami?

Hanna Marin and Caleb Rivers (Pretty Little Liars)

ABC Family "Pretty Little Liars"

Video no longer available.

I never had the chance to catch Ravenswood, but the spinoff series to PLL was unfortunately cancelled just a few days ago. The silver lining everyone has been talking about, of course, is that this frees Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) from the promises keeping him stuck in that spooky town. He’s free to return to Rosewood! Though, if Pretty Little Liars does decide to write Tyler Blackburn’s character back into the game, how could the series possibly account for all of the supernatural chaos that went down on the spinoff? In any case, the return of Caleb would definitely shake things up in Hanna’s (Ashley Benson) personal plot, and the fact that PLL was willing to sacrifice him by sending him off to Ravenswood in the first place is probably a good sign that Caleb has absolutely nothing to do with Alison, A, etc. He’s (kind of) officially one of the good guys!
