8 Great TV Characters Who Could Seriously Use New Personal Plots
It's tough being great nowadays. When TV shows continue to succeed season after season, it's easy for some of our favorite characters to get lost in the mix along the way, but that doesn't mean they ever stop being great players in the game. Sometimes, it's just about giving a character who's already great the chance to grow even further. Here's a list of eight awesome TV characters who could use a new change in direction as their hit series carry onward.
Be sure to add your own ideas for your favorite characters below!
Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries)
The CW "The Vampire Diaries"Damon Salvatore is the breakout character of The Vampire Diaries, and there's really no denying that. Now that we're midway through Season 5 of the CW hit, maybe it's time for Damon to drop the "I'm bad! I'm bad! I'm just bad!" act in favor of something that could put his badass self to better use. The love triangle will always take center stage on TVD, but how much longer can it all work if it's merely about Elena Gilbert choosing back and forth between the two Salvatore brothers?
Derek Hale (Teen Wolf)
MTV "Teen Wolf"Derek Hale is Scot McCall's mentor, but ever since Scott tapped into his abilities as a "True Alpha," Derek has been all but missing from our screens. He used to be a brooding, mysterious question mark, but now his allegiance isn't one to be questioned. Just because we know he truly cares about Scott and his pack doesn't mean that he can't still bring a sense of danger to Teen Wolf.
Any Character Played by Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story)
FX "American Horror Story"Taissa Farminga might have sat out during Asylum, but now we sort of know why. The crew behind American Horror Story should think up a new way to work in the show's young starlet that doesn't involved this ongoing "star-crossed lovers" arc with Evan Peters as we head into Carnival territory for Season 4. Season 3's Zoe and Kyle ended up being nothing more than a poor man's version of Season 1's Violet and Tate. That's not a terrible thing, but I couldn't imagine that couple being too intriguing without Madison Montgomery in the mix to spice things up and bring the drama to the relationship.
Shoshanna Shapiro (GIRLS)
HBO "GIRLS"It's a known fact that Zosia Mamet's Shoshanna wasn't intended to be a series regular, but rather, a one-off during Season 1 of the trendy HBO comedy. Fans love the anti-hipster and her refreshing commercialist musings, but Season 3's Shoshanna has sort of been lacking in the personal plot department. We don't want to feel like Shoshanna is only there to make rhyme or reason out of the lives of the other three girls on GIRLS. If that happens, her cutting criticisms might seem to sting a little too much.
Josh (The Originals)
Josh seemed like a mere extra before surpassing expectations and surprisingly becoming Davina's bestie. As the Vampire Diaries' Universe's first openly gay character, he's added a refreshing sense of heart and charm to the darker TVD spinoff, but it's time he quits running and hiding from the wrath of Klaus. At this point, it seems sort of irrational considering all of the backstabbing and betrayals that've been going on.
Felicity Smoak (Arrow)
The CW "Arrow"When Felicity was officially added to Team Arrow midway through the action-drama's first season, it was totally exciting to then learn that this blonde, bubbly breath of fresh air was promoted to a series regular for the show's second. Yes, we all enjoy our Olicity moments, but now that Oliver Queen is preoccupied with his rekindled romance with Sara Lance, perhaps it's time we see a little bit of Felicity's personal life. I don't want to believe that the girl has nothing going on for her besides tracking baddies and hacking for the Arrow. Everybody else has gotten a little personal time on our TV screens. Felicity, not so much.
Jake Rosati (Awkward.)
MTV "Awkward."It seems like the cast of Awkward. has so much fun on set that I'm sure whatever hilarious material is handed to them is deemed amazing, but as a viewer, it's sort of been strange to watch Jake Rosati go from Matty McKibbin's rival in the battle for Jenna Hamilton's heart to Tamara's whipped romantic sidekick. Judging by the trailer for Season 4, Jake is breaking out on his own for some solo bachelor time. Let's hope this means we get more Jake Rosati awesomeness this time around!
Freddie Lounds (Hannibal)
NBC "Hannibal"Okay, so this one is a stretch, mainly because Hannibal Season 2 is just getting started. Freddie Lounds is the ultimate snake on an exceptional crime-drama television show surrounding the sadistic world of psychopaths. Thus far, she's only made one small appearance this season with a lackluster testimony against Will Graham. Hopefully, the tabloid journalist plays a bigger role as the story carries on.
