'Idol' ratings climb on second night (Variety)

Fox's hit show draws 30.3 million viewers -- Fox's "American Idol" notched more huge numbers on Wednesday, building slightly in some demos vs. its Tuesday premiere and repping its best performance relative to opening night in five years.

Just some more insight: I just love how every year when these numbers come out, all the doomsayers start declaring the end of American Idol for whatever personal reason. Broadcast TV viewing across the board has been down, and these lower numbers compared to previous years reflect the viewing habits of Americans in general and not because American Idol is faltering. More and more people are using their DVRs and getting their Idol-fix on the Internet. I believe this show is still as popular as ever.
